Saporta Report (December 2, 2024) – In metro Atlanta, a transformative effort called The Atlanta Vision Project is setting out to provide vision screenings, eye exams, and glasses to every elementary school-aged student in need, at no cost to students or their families. Aimed at addressing the challenge of accessing vision care, this initiative has clear objectives: ensuring that every child in our region has the chance to see clearly, learn effectively, and grow confidently. The Griffon Daily News (November 7, 2024) – On Oct. 8, a nicely dressed crowd gathered to celebrate at the College Football Hall of Fame in downtown Atlanta — but the reason they were there had nothing to do with touchdowns or interceptions. Instead, the roughly 500 in attendance were there to recognize community partnerships — like the longstanding relationship between the Georgia Lions Lighthouse and Emory Eye Center — a bond that has made it possible for hundreds of thousands of uninsured and under-insured Georgians to access top-notch eye screenings and follow-up care. Bolton Academy students received free eye screenings through the Sight For Kids program, which was co-founded by the Lions Club International Foundation and Johnson & Johnson. Volunteers performed the vision checks and helped order pairs of fresh eyes for those who needed them. View Video

The Covington News (August 12, 2024) Hubbard first began her Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, Inc. volunteerism in 2014-15 when she served as the Council Representative for the Council of Governors. Fulton Neighbor (March 14, 2024) — Atlanta Public Schools partnered with Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation to provide vision screenings for students with a focus on Title 1 schools across metro Atlanta, including Deerwood Academy. The Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation provides vision services through education, detection, prevention, and treatment and works with organizations across metro Atlanta to transform comprehensive vision care for children. Hoodline (March 14, 2024) — Vision is crucial for learning, and for many students at Atlanta’s Deerwood Academy, that vision is about to sharply improve. In an initiative that has provided free eye screenings and glasses to public school students, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation (GLLF), in partnership with Atlanta Public Schools, is making a significant impact on children’s lives. Fox 5 Atlanta (March 13, 2024) – ATLANTA – Dozens of Atlanta Public Schools students will soon see the world like they never have before. Sometimes you don’t know what you don’t know and if a kid has never been able to see the whiteboard on the other side of the room, they probably think their vision is normal. Ophthalmologists and APS leaders say the free glasses and vision screenings could clear up more than just eyesight. What was done in the dark on Wednesday at Deerwood Academy will help students see in the light. The free eye exams are only possible through a $50,000 donation from KIA. organization for providing vision services for children, adults, and seniors who otherwise do not have access to vision care, has announced that Lois Modell has joined their Board of Directors. Lois Modell has been the Executive Director of the Savannah Association for the Blind for more than a decade. ATLANTA September 20, 2023  – Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, Inc., Peach Bowl, Inc. and Kia have teamed up for the 6th annual Evening in the End Zone, “A Night of Spectacles,” fundraising event. The 2023 event will be held on Thursday, October 12 at the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame. (, WSB Cox) “We are seeing a huge uptick in the number of children who need to have those glasses,” Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, Inc. Executive Director Beth Ehrhardt said. The nonprofit organization is working with Atlanta Public Schools to screen as many students as possible. Administrators say because of the pandemic, too many children missed eye exams. Many have never had one. So the Lions are providing them free of charge. At their facility in Chamblee, they fabricate prescription eyeglasses, also free of charge for patients.
