Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation Delivers Over 120 Pairs of Glasses to Alcova Elementary Students

Transforming vision services for Children in Georgia

Dacula, GA — April 24, 2026 – Earlier this month, Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation continued its mission of expanding access to vision care by delivering more than 120 pairs of eyeglasses to students at Alcova Elementary School in Dacula, Ga who received free eye screening, complete vision exams by a Georgia-licensed optometrist if needed. Students were able to pick out eyeglass frames for their glasses, all at no cost to the school, child, or parents.

The eyeglass delivery event was led by Georgia Lions Lighthouse Jamal Green, Mobile School Clinic Director, who, along with staff, worked directly with students to ensure proper fit and immediate impact. The moment marked a significant milestone for many children who had previously been navigating the classroom with undiagnosed or uncorrected vision challenges.

Among the most powerful moments of the day were seen in special education students Josiah and Evan, who were captured jumping with excitement after putting on their new glasses. Their reaction reflected the life-changing impact of improved vision—an experience that goes far beyond sight alone.

“This is why we do the work,” said Greene, “When you see a child instantly gain clarity—not just in their vision, but in their confidence—it reinforces how critical clear vision and access to eye care truly is. For many of these students, this is the first time they’re seeing the world clearly.”

Educators at Alcova Elementary also recognized the significance of the moment. Special education teacher Ms. Glaven expressed optimism about what lies ahead.

“I truly believe this will be a turning point for my students,” she said. “With improved vision comes confidence, and with confidence comes the ability to engage, learn, and perform at a higher level. This is going to make a real difference in their lives.”

The delivery of eyeglasses is part of Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation’s broader commitment to removing barriers to vision care, particularly for students in underserved communities. Partnering with schools ensures that children receive not only screenings and exams, but also the corrective lenses they need to succeed academically and socially.

As Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation continues its outreach across Georgia, moments like these highlight the profound connection between vision, education, literacy, and opportunity.
