Georgia Lions Resources Screenings

Screenings

A vision screening is a test of an individual’s vision that checks for potential sight problems caused by eye conditions such as hyperopia, strabismus, and astigmatism (among others). A vision screening is NOT a substitute for a full eye exam.

Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation is proud to partner with volunteers from local Lions Clubs around the state to provide SPOT screeners for local community/school screenings for reservation.

White Cane

White Cane is an annual fundraising initiative promoted and supported by the Lions Clubs. All funds raised through the White Cane Initiative support clients of Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, Inc. who need vision surgeries, lack insurance coverage and cannot afford to pay for the surgery themselves.

White Cane Safety Day has also been nationally observed since 1964. The October 15 date is set aside to celebrate the achievements of people who are blind or visually impaired and the important symbol of blindness and tool of independence, the white cane.

Lions Club International also supports White Cane Safety Day and has a whole program available to Lion Clubs on its website.

Georgia Lions may elect to promote the White Cane initiative at any point in the year that works optimally for their community.
