The Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Chamblee, Ga., that provides free or deeply discounted comprehensive vision and hearing care for uninsured or underinsured Georgia residents. Founded in 1949 by Lions Club members from Atlanta, Moultrie, and Albany, the Lighthouse has served as a beacon of hope to low-income families around the state for almost 60 years. The generosity of our medical-provider partners enables the Lighthouse to provide hearing and vision services to Georgians in need at a cost-benefit ratio of $1 to $5 – meaning that for every dollar donated, patients receive $5 in healthcare services.
Our on-site vision clinic provides eye exams and eyeglass fittings to hundreds of Georgians every year, while staff opticians work with volunteers and donated materials to sort, clean, and send more than 100,000 pairs of recycled eyeglasses to developing countries each year. For clients in need of hearing aids, we partner with members of our 150-provider network and four hearing-aid manufacturers. The Lighthouse hearing-aid program is funding in large part by the Georgia Public Service Commission.

Are donations to the Lighthouse tax-deductible?
Yes. The Lighthouse’s 501(c)(3) status with the Internal Revenue Service makes all financial donations 100% tax-deductible.
How does the Lighthouse use monetary donations?
Like all nonprofit organizations, the Lighthouse uses donations for myriad purposes; for example, running the vision clinic, covering operating expenses, and maintaining the vehicles that enable us to offer mobile vision screening services. Who is eligible for financial assistance with vision and hearing care?
The Lighthouse strives to provide assistance to as many applicants as possible; however, in the interest of being good stewards of the monies entrusted to us, we require applicants to meet certain standards of income and residence.
